![]() ![]() Luckily I bought it from Costco so had time to experiment. It was my first Mac so I didn't know any better, so I gave it a shot. When I was shopping for an M1, I heard that line a lot, that ram is somehow managed "differently" on Mac and 8GB on a MacOS is somehow incongruent with 8GB on Windows. It's too bad native apps are getting harder and harder to findĨGB would suck on windows, but on Mac it's different.ĭisagree respectfully, but based on my personal experience: I mostly blame shitty Electron apps and Chrome for the crazy high memory usage we see on machines nowadays. I wouldn't recommend 32GB for most people but 16GB is definitely the sweet spot. ![]() MacOS is really good at using extra ram, looking at Activity Monitor right now I'm using just over 20GB of ram and MacOS is using just shy of 10GB to cache files. I now own a 16" M1 Pro MBP with 32GB of ram. I owned an 8GB M1 MBA that I bought as a temporary machine while I waited for the larger MBPs, my ram usage was always at 100% and the performance did suffer. I don't think someone buys this laptop and returns it because it doesn't have enough ram, I'm willing to bet in a blind test between 8GB and 16GB you wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless you have a specific workload task that needs it.įull Disclosure: I was on the 8GB fence too, thought it was stupid and I would never buy a macbook with 8GB in 2023 but here I am. Just want more because you might need it? or are you a power user that actually needs it? I can't understand how 16GB is such a deal breaker for people when they might not actually need it. ![]() So I guess what's the justification for 16GB. I don't see the need for 16GB, in fact it would be a waste of money for me. Even when I'm pushing it hard with 30+ tabs opening, multiple tasking it keeps up no problem. I have a high-end gaming pc with 32GB of ram and base model M2 with 8GB. 8GB would suck on windows, but on Mac it's different. ![]() It's easy for someone using Windows daily looking at a 8GB macbook to say that's not enough. Everyone keeps beating this drum but the reality is 8GB of more than enough for most users, even in 2023. ![]()
